O Blog where art thou?

This post filed under: Blog

I was reading some of my old blogs today. Some of them were dang funny. There was definitely a period where I was on a real roll. Contrary to popular opinion I do miss blogging as regularly as I used to. But my recent visit with The Ghost of Blogs past has made me wonder what changed so much that the blogs stopped being so frequent or so wet-your-pants funny? (Lord knows I’m happiest when inspiring others to wet themselves … and we’ll leave it at that.)

I think there are a few reasons. Some of them are easy to understand or explain. Some of them would be hard for anyone other than me to understand. And some of the reasons are even hard for me to grasp.

Firstly. I say “I’m very busy” all the time … and I’m not really. Razz The issue isn’t that I’m so horribly over burdened, but rather that the things I do have to do drain me so much and take up so much of my mental energy during the day that:

  1. Very likely the only thing my frazzled mind can thing of to blog … is the stuff that frazzled it … and the last thing I want to do is think/write about it more.

  2. I have little energy left to do things like blog. Blogging (at least for me who wants to entertain a bit when I blog) requires some level of creativity and lately I’ve just been mentally wiped out during what free time I have and blogging just hasn’t been appealing at all.

Secondly the time I do have and with which I can bring myself to work on things such as my personal website is now divided between several projects. I’m pretty excited about them and enjoy working on them when I can, but they compete with this blog for my creative time.

  • I now run two fully functional websites, one of which (not this one) is a relatively active community site. I have to spend time there because there are many people who use the site daily.

  • I’m now getting into Windows Application Development (think of that like building a web browser instead of a web page … whole different ball game and an entirely different audience). So far I’ve published one application, which is in Alpha testing now and has gotten good reviews. It needs to be fleshed out, a beta period run, and finally a release version published.

  • I have the preliminary designs done for a rather significant new Windows development project … that’s going to take some time.

  • I’m toying with a 3rd community web site to facilitate distribution / support / community for the windows applications that I develop.

Thirdly … and this one I don’t even get myself … but it’s true … I’ve been in a crappy mood for the past … year or so. Razz LOL seriously … blogging is at it’s best when it’s some funny story or interesting twist on a days events, and those sorts of things are realized less and less when the observer is in a crappy mood. /shrug

All that being said, I’m going to try and start blogging more often again. I am not making any promises that the blogs are going to be the rockin’ good time they used to be … but they will hopefully be more frequent at least. (Baby steps … baby steps).

In the meantime perhaps there is something you can do to help. Very Happy I’m now accepting suggestions (in the form of submitted blog comments) as to what I should blog about next. It could be anything: The War in Iraq, The Social value of Blue vs. Green, Why the 80s hairstyles will never truly die … you pick the topic, and I will do my best to chose at least one and provide “The issue according to Dave”. (I may not pick any of them, or I may pick more than one … but the submission may very will be as entertaining as the blogs they inspire)

I look forward to your continued participation in DavidMeade.com Very Happy
