So as many of you have come to realize… I’ve not been in the greatest of moods for the past…oh…several months.
(For those of you without the joy of being near me every day… you can get a good feel for my general attitude as of late by reading Kevin’s Jan 15th Blog (and my responses to them).
Frankly…I’ve just not had the spirit to blog.
However…For whatever reason, I decided to create a new and imporved Blog system on my website (and if I do say so myself…it’s pretty freakin’ sweet). Naturally I had to blog in order to take advantage of it.
You probably wont see much of a difference in the actual blog itself. Well, you will perhpas see more bold, Italics, colored text, and smilie faces
. The system does alot more than that, but these sorts of things are the things you’ll see from your end. Basically its a new post editor. It lets you select text and then hit the bold button, or click on a smilie face to insert it into your blog
, or highlight some text and turn it into a link…that sort of thing. It also of course does a much much better job of formating (it keeps line breaks you enter much more effectively now). My personal favorite feature (although I do love them all) is the preview feature. It lets you preview exactly how the blog will look when you save it.
I’ve still got some tweaking of the code to do, but I think the hard part is over. I’ve designed it so that it can be inserted into any of the other systems I’ve written for any of my websites. So, once I get it finalized, I’ll work to incorporate the new interface for the blog comments system as well. This should be really valuable as you will then be able to preview your comments before you add them and also very easily add some basic formatting. (Note: this was just completed, check it out by leaving a comment and tell me what you think. 1/21/04)
(And yes Doug and Kevin I will forward you the code. However if you give me a week I will have it much more portable.)

Nice to see you blogging again! I feel for you, I never had the spirit to START a blog on my site.

FYI, I’ve gone ahead and added the new editor to the blog comments function.
You should now be able to preview and format your blog comments.
I’ve still got some work to do on this new feature so you’ll see it get better and better…but it’s working well enough to give a limited trial via the blog and comments.

What good will all this do if you only blog once every four months?
None the less… Bravo.
I’ve been meaning to do this for over a year.
(had something similar done on a different web site I built and never did it for my own.)
I love it!
Only one more thing needed to make this blog tool ready for the masses…
Commenters can leave a name and email… but most also want to leave a URL back to thier own site.
ROCK ON!
